We believe that brushing your dog is the most important part of caring for a dog. It helps your dog to stay healthier and look and feel good.
Brushing regularly also helps you to get to know your dogs body better. Allowing you to pick up any potential health problems sooner.
“We recommend you brush a little each day, if that's not possible then try to aim for every second day. You'll notice the difference it will make.”
Different breeds have different needs and require different equipment. With a myriad of dog care products on the market it can be overwhelming to understand what is best for you and your dog. At KDG we use a number of brushes in our salon depending on the breed and size of the dog to the condition of the coat at the time of use. To help make things easier for you, we've made our salon brushes available for you to purchase either online or if you prefer a more personal touch you can drop by and shop at our salon.
Which brush is right for my dog?
Ok let's keep it simple, at KDG we use two types of brushes, alternating depending on the situation.
These brushes are suitable for Small breed DOGS with little or no undercoat. Soft and gentle even to the most sensitive skin, and are most effective in removing loose hair, sebum and dandruff. With long or short hair, the Pet+Me® brush will pamper and comfort your furry friend in several ways. These flexible brushes form to the body of the pet, are very gentle and can be used around all the delicate areas such as the eyes or nose. At the same time the brushes are extremely effective in removing loose hair from the undercoat and even dandruff. It stimulates the blood flow and makes your dog feel relaxed.

The Pet+Me® brush is made of 100% pure silicone, completely free of harmful chemicals and metals making it safe for both human and animal. For a thorough cleaning these brushes can be washed in the washing machine. All Pet+Me® brushes carry a 5 year material guarantee and are available now in our salon or you can shop online.
These brushes are suitable for removing the most stubborn mats and tangles, even in difficult to reach places. The unique duo-pin design features both long and short durable angled teeth making this brush ideal for use after bathing while blow drying the coat. We recommend using light, long strokes with and against the direction of coat growth. Brush slowly to avoid static build-up. Tips for using the Universal Duo-Pin Slicker:
Long coats-Gently brush with a light, long stroke, brushing beyond the ends of the hair tip to avoid static and breakage.
For best results brush the hair in layers.
Start at the bottom by parting the coat horizontally and holding the un-brushed portion up with your free hand.
Work methodically upwards, keeping your wrist straight to avoid contact with the dogs skin.
Curly coats-Brush in the direction of coat growth and then against it using light, long strokes
Harsh coats-Brush the coat in the direction of coat growth then against if necessary to remove mats and dead hair.
Pay special attention to areas that are prone to matting, like behind ears, on the loins and under the legs.
Oh by the way, to prevent mats and tangles, along side a daily brush, we recommend your dog's coat is regularly bathed, treated with a conditioner. At KDG we use Melanie Newman's Salon Essentials Relax range. We love that her products are free from harsh synthetic chemicals. Containing vitamin enriched moisturising oils and organic essential oils of Lavender, Geranium and Bergamot, they provide a clean, fresh smelling coat with a natural shine.
